VP Shettima departs for UN Food Summit to push food security reforms

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent Nigeria at the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) taking place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from July 27 to 29, 2025.
The summit, hosted in partnership with the governments of Ethiopia, Italy, and the United Nations, will gather global leaders to assess the progress made since the inaugural 2021 summit and strategize towards building more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems.
Shettima, according to his spokesman Stanley Nkwocha, will participate in a series of high-level discussions including a focus on transforming agricultural value chains, particularly the coffee sector, and advancing Nigeria’s food security agenda.
He is also expected to join ministerial roundtables on key issues such as public finance, trade, and responsible investment in agriculture.
In a recent briefing ahead of the summit, Vice President Shettima outlined Nigeria’s objectives: to assert leadership in African food systems reform, forge global partnerships aligned with national priorities, and promote a private sector-driven model for agricultural transformation.
The summit aims to inspire collective global action against hunger and climate-induced food crises through knowledge sharing, creative engagement, and evidence-based solutions.
