UNIMED Registrar murdered in cold blood at Akure residence

Tragedy has struck the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, following the brutal murder of its Registrar, Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, by suspected assassins on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at his residence in Akure.
Adeniran, appointed as the university’s third substantive Registrar on January 6, 2025, was reportedly attacked by two unknown men who forced a poisonous substance into his mouth after he stepped outside to investigate a strange noise on his rooftop.

A family member, who requested anonymity, revealed that the assailants came from a nearby bush, overpowered the deceased, and administered the suspected poison.
He was later found unconscious in the compound and was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
His body has been deposited at Divine Haven Mortuary in Akure.
Confirming the incident, Ondo State Police Command spokesperson SP Ayanlade Olayinka described it as a clear case of assassination.
“We can confirm that the deceased was murdered. Two men came out of the bush and forcefully administered a substance into his mouth.
“We are doing everything possible to bring the perpetrators to justice,” he stated, urging the public to come forward with any useful information.
The university community has been thrown into mourning.
In a statement, UNIMED’s Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, described Adeniran’s death as both shocking and devastating, adding that he was last seen at work on Monday, July 14.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the entire university community,” the statement read.
Also reacting, the institution’s Head of Human Resources, Mr. M.A. Akinkuade, praised the late Registrar’s dedication and hard work, stating that his contributions would not be forgotten.
