UNICAL Post UTME 2025: Key updates, deadlines, and what candidates must know

As the University of Calabar (UNICAL) gears up for the 2025 Post UTME screening exercise, prospective candidates are advised to take note of critical updates surrounding registration, examination schedules, and admission procedures.
Registration for the Post UTME is scheduled to end on Monday, August 4, 2025.
However, there are indications that the university might extend the deadline by one week to pave the way for Direct Entry (DE) registration, which is expected to commence shortly after.
The Post UTME aptitude test is set to hold from Monday, August 18, and the UNICAL Publishing Complex has been designated as the approved venue for the examination.

Accreditation of candidates begins daily at 8:00 a.m., and students are strongly advised to arrive in Calabar a day before their exam to avoid complications.
According to the outlined format, candidates will answer 40 questions in 30 minutes, covering six subjects.
English Language and Current Affairs are compulsory, regardless of the applicant’s field of study.
Each question carries 10 marks, making the total score 400.
Students who made a change of course but are yet to see the update reflected will write under their previous course.
Nonetheless, their admission consideration will align with the new course, provided all academic requirements are met. Similarly,
candidates who recently changed their institution to UNICAL and miss the registration deadline may be scheduled to write on the last day of the exams.
They are expected to appear with their credentials and necessary fees.
The university also confirmed that Post UTME results will be released a few days after the test, and candidates will be required to purchase a scratch card pin to access their results online.
Following the examination, departmental cut-off marks will be determined based on average student performance.
High performance across candidates could raise the benchmarks, while lower averages could lead to moderate cut-offs.
Admission scores will be calculated as the average of a candidate’s JAMB UTME score and Post UTME score, and different cut-offs will apply per state and department.
Once these cut-offs are released, the primary merit list will follow, compiled within weeks after the screening.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is expected to vet and approve all admission lists via its Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) to ensure transparency and compliance with national standards.
Further admissions will come through supplementary lists, where Educationally Less Developed States (ELDS) and catchment areas are factored in.
Importantly, all candidates must ensure that they upload their O’Level results on the JAMB portal. Without this, no admission will be granted, even to candidates who score full marks in the Post UTME.
Meanwhile, the university has made available its MUD (My UNICAL Dreams) Post UTME past questions, answers, and solutions to assist candidates in their preparation.
