President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi as the new Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).

The announcement, made on Thursday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that Majekodunmi will take over from Dr. Nkiruka Madueke, who was appointed as the pioneer Director-General of the Council in June 2024.

Majekodunmi, a seasoned climate finance expert and environmental lawyer with more than 17 years of experience, has worked closely with global and national organisations on renewable energy development, carbon market frameworks, and climate governance strategies.

Before her new role, she served as the Council’s Financial Adviser and contributed significantly to shaping Nigeria’s climate change policies and international partnerships.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing DG, Dr. Madueke, for her commitment and for laying a solid foundation for the Council.

He noted that Majekodunmi’s elevation reflects the administration’s determination to confront climate change as not only an environmental imperative but also a tool for sustainable economic development, national security, and inclusive growth.
