Tenure Tussle: Niger Govt suspends council boss for taking legal action

The Executive Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government Area in Niger State, Hon. Aminu Yakubu Ladan, has been suspended from office following his legal challenge against the state government’s decision to cut short the tenure of elected local government officials.
Ladan had filed a lawsuit questioning the legality of reducing the constitutionally guaranteed 4-year term to 3 years.
He argued that the move was a violation of the Nigerian Constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
