Nigeria’s Super Falcons have secured a spot in the semi-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with an emphatic 5-0 win over Zambia in their quarter-final encounter on Friday.

The nine-time champions wasted no time asserting dominance, with Osinachi Ohale opening the scoring in just the 2nd minute via a powerful header from a set-piece delivery.

The early goal set the tone for what would become a one-sided affair.

Nigeria doubled their lead when Esther Okoronkwo calmly slotted home after connecting with a fine cross from Rasheedat Ajibade.

The Falcons made it 3-0 before halftime after goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie launched a long ball that found Chinwendu Ihezuo, who finished brilliantly to extend Nigeria’s advantage.

In the second half, the Super Falcons maintained firm control of possession and continued to press.

Their fourth goal came through defender Tosin Demehin, who rose highest to head in a well-taken free-kick by Okoronkwo.

Substitute Folashade Ijamilusi added the final nail in the coffin with a close-range tap-in from another Rasheedat Ajibade assist, marking her first-ever goal for the national team.

The dominant victory propels Nigeria into the last four, as they pursue a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
