South Korea Agency, Alumni support 170 Plateau Children in CSR Initiative

In a remarkable display of international cooperation and social responsibility, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), in collaboration with the South Korea International Cooperation Alumni in Nigeria (SKICAN) and the SOS Children’s Village, has successfully carried out its 2025 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) outreach at St. Jarlath Pilot Nursery and Primary School in Bukuru, Plateau State.
Themed “Empowering Young Lives Through Knowledge, Care, and Climate Action,” the programme catered to over 170 pupils supported by the SOS Children’s Village in Plateau, offering essential educational resources while promoting environmental protection.
The initiative is part of KOICA’s wider efforts to support inclusive, quality education and climate action in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 and 13.
Speaking at the event, KOICA Nigeria Country Director, Mr. Kim Eunsub, reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to improving basic education and child welfare in Nigeria.
“Investing in education is one of the most sustainable ways to secure a brighter future. These children are filled with potential, and it is KOICA’s duty to help nurture that,” he said.
On his part, SKICAN President, Barr. Joseph Oboh, underscored the vital role of education in national growth, stressing that no meaningful development is possible without it.
He encouraged the children to stay determined and take advantage of the opportunities made available to them.
The outreach, which attracted praise from officials of the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board, Jos South Local Government Education Authority, UNICEF, and community organizations, was described as a model for sustainable grassroots development.
During the event, students received school bags, textbooks, writing materials, and other academic supplies to support their learning.
The day also featured a tree-planting exercise as a symbol of the project’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community growth.
KOICA noted that the programme highlights its broader strategy of fostering human capital development and resilience in Nigerian communities by collaborating with alumni networks like SKICAN and partnering with local agencies.
The 2025 CSR initiative is expected to further advance equitable education and environmental awareness across Plateau and beyond.
