Four Senators elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing irreconcilable differences within their former party.

The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, read their individual defection letters during plenary on Wednesday and directed the Clerk of the Senate to formally document the changes.

The defecting lawmakers include Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Oluwole Olubiyi (Osun Central), Aniekan Bassey (Akwa Ibom North East), and Samson Ekong (Akwa Ibom South).

Their departure from the opposition has shifted the balance of power in the upper legislative chamber, with the new composition now standing at: APC – 70 seats, PDP – 28, Labour Party – 5, NNPP – 1, SDP – 2, and APGA – 1.
