Rivers Electoral Commission postpones council polls by Three Weeks

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has announced a new date for the conduct of the local government elections in the state, shifting the polls to August 30, 2025.
This was disclosed by the newly appointed RSIEC Chairman, Dr. Michael Ekpali Odey, during his address at the public unveiling of the revised election timetable on Monday.
The elections were initially slated for August 9, 2025, under the leadership of former RSIEC Chairman, Retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli.
However, following the dissolution of the commission’s board, the schedule was affected.
The dissolution came under the directive of Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, who currently serves as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State.
Admiral Ibas was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of emergency measures declared in the state.
In the course of the intervention, the President also suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, and the entire members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
