Parliamentary activities paused untill September as Reps begin annual recess

The Nigerian House of Representatives has commenced its annual two-month recess, adjourning plenary sessions with a scheduled resumption date of Tuesday, September 23, 2025, Daily Watch Nigeria reports.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas made the announcement during the closing session on Wednesday, July 23, at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
He encouraged members to use the recess period to reconnect with constituents, address local challenges, and monitor the progress of federal projects in their areas.
“This recess is not a vacation but an opportunity to strengthen our bond with the people we serve and ensure effective representation,” the Speaker noted.
The adjournment followed a busy legislative period, which included the approval of a $347 million loan for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and a national telecom access project.
Lawmakers also paid tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
While the House recorded notable achievements during the session, it was also marked by controversies around political defections and debates on security concerns.
Despite the recess, standing committees are expected to continue oversight duties to ensure federal agencies comply with policy and budgetary directives.
The Senate also adjourned on July 23 and is scheduled to resume on the same date as the House, keeping both chambers in sync for the next legislative cycle.
