Nigeria’s U-17 girls bow out of FIBA World Cup after loss to Hungary

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s basketball team has crashed out of the FIBA U-17 Women’s Basketball World Cup after a 74-51 defeat to Hungary in the round of 16.
The young Nigerian side started strong, ending the first quarter in a 9-9 draw with their European opponents.
However, their momentum dropped in the second quarter as Hungary surged ahead, outscoring them 30-12 to take firm control of the match by halftime.
Despite a spirited effort in the third quarter, Nigeria narrowly lost the frame 15-16.
Hungary then sealed their win by edging the final quarter 16-15, maintaining their dominance throughout the game.
Hungary’s Kinga Jisepovits was the standout performer with 19 points, while Eliza Farbas added 13 rebounds.

For Nigeria, Tobenna Nweke led the scoring with 12 points, and Francis Chukwu contributed 9 rebounds.
While the loss ended Nigeria’s journey in the tournament, the team made history as the first African side to win a game and reach the round of 16 in the FIBA U-17 Women’s Basketball World Cup.
