LPPC approves 57 new SANs, swearing-in set for September

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 57 legal practitioners to the highly esteemed rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
This decision was reached during the committee’s 169th plenary session held in Abuja under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
Of the newly approved SANs, 56 were elevated under the advocates’ category, while one legal scholar, Prof. Chima Ubanyionwu, was selected in the academic category.
Notably, only two women made the list this year, Mrs. Oyinkan Badejo-Okusanya, Chairperson of the 2024 NBA Annual General Conference Planning Committee, and Mrs. Chinyere Ekene Moneme.
Prominent among the appointees are Ikechukwu Uwanna, Attorney General of Abia State and former NBA Lagos branch Chairman; Labaran Magaji, former Attorney General of Nasarawa State and current Secretary to the State Government; and Oluwole Jimi-Bada, Attorney General of Osun State.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new SANs has been scheduled for Monday, September 29, 2025.
The SAN title is a symbol of professional excellence, reserved for lawyers who have shown exceptional distinction in courtroom advocacy or academic legal scholarship.
According to a statement from the LPPC, three petitions were reviewed during the session, but all were found to be baseless and dismissed.
In compliance with the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) directives, all successful applicants must attend and complete the mandatory Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme.
