Gov Nwifuru fires warning shot, suspends 25 commissioners, 14 SSAs, 48 others over absenteeism (Full List)

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has ordered the suspension of 87 government officials, including 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries, for failing to attend an important official function.

The disciplinary action was announced Monday night through a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Monday Uzor, who explained that the affected officials would serve a one-month suspension without pay.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has directed that the underlisted government functionaries proceed on a one-month working suspension without salary for failure to attend an important government function,” the statement read.

The directive, which takes immediate effect, also bars the suspended officials from signing any government documents during the period. Commissioners are to hand over responsibilities to their respective permanent secretaries.

According to Uzor, the move reflects Governor Nwifuru’s emphasis on discipline, accountability, and commitment to public service.

“The suspension serves as a stern reminder of the administration’s expectations regarding attendance, duty, and professional conduct,” he said.
