Confusion rocks Labour Party as Abure loyalists protest at INEC Headquarters

Civil society groups loyal to the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party on Wednesday staged a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding the inclusion of the party’s candidates in the forthcoming nationwide bye-elections.
Dozens of demonstrators marched with banners and placards bearing inscriptions such as “INEC, who is using you against LP,” “Mahmood stop destroying democracy in Nigeria,” and “Tell INEC to obey court orders.”
The protesters, who arrived around 11:00 a.m., accused the electoral commission of bias and urged it to act in accordance with court directives.
Meanwhile, confusion trails the protest as the Labour Party, under its Interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, distanced itself from the demonstration.

In a statement signed by her Senior Special Adviser on Media, Ken Asogwa, the party described the protest organisers as “impostors” and “political impersonators,” insisting it had no hand in the action against INEC.
