Canada’s 2025 immigration plan prioritizes parents, grandparents

Canada’s immigration department has announced that invitations for the 2025 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) will begin going out from July 28, 2025.
The process will last several weeks and is expected to reach 17,860 potential sponsors who had submitted their interest-to-sponsor forms back in 2020.
In a statement released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the government said it aims to receive up to 10,000 fully completed applications under this year’s program.
Those invited will be required to submit their applications through the online Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal.
IRCC urged individuals who filled out the 2020 interest-to-sponsor form but haven’t received an invitation to keep a close watch on their email inboxes, including spam and junk folders.
The department made it clear that only submissions from the 2020 pool will be considered this year, with no new interest-to-sponsor forms being accepted.
Canadians who don’t get an invitation are encouraged to explore the super visa option, which is a multiple-entry visa valid for up to 10 years.
This visa permits parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for up to five years at a time, with the option to apply for a two-year extension while still in the country.

While Canada has been working to limit the number of new temporary and permanent residents in general, IRCC stressed that family reunification remains a core focus of its immigration policy, accounting for 22 percent of all permanent resident admissions.
