Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has announced that he will not contest in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 7, 2026.

Oyetola made the declaration during a strategic meeting held at the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign office, which he co-chaired with All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, and Chairman of the Elders’ Caucus, Chief Sola Akinwumi.

Addressing party stakeholders, the former Osun governor emphasized that reclaiming the state for the APC in 2026 remains a top priority.

He stated that he was stepping down from his gubernatorial ambition to allow space for other aspirants, whom he described as competent and experienced.

“We have qualified, competent and people of outstanding track records as aspirants contesting for the governorship election and this is a unique selling proposition to feast on,” Oyetola said.

“We will continue to complement the federal government’s efforts on all fronts.”

He advised all APC aspirants to maintain party unity by avoiding negative campaigns and divisive politics, stressing the need for internal cooperation.
