President Bola Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with the national title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), alongside cash rewards of $100,000 and flats for each player.

The announcement was made during a special reception at the State House on Monday evening, in celebration of the team’s historic fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship win.

D’Tigress claimed their seventh AfroBasket crown on Sunday after defeating Mali 78–64 in a thrilling final match held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The recognition mirrors similar rewards given to the Super Falcons by President Tinubu last week for clinching Nigeria’s 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
