BREAKING: Labour Party appoints Nenadi Usman, Nwokocha as interim chair, secretary

The Labour Party‘s statutory National Executive Committee (NEC) has appointed Senator Nenadi Usman as the Interim National Chairperson and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as the Interim National Secretary.
This decision was made during the NEC meeting held on Friday in Abuja, where members also constituted the party’s interim working committee to oversee activities until a national convention is held.
The NEC also approved the schedule for the conduct of congresses at ward, local government, state, and zonal levels, culminating in a national convention.

The party’s national secretariat has been directed to publish comprehensive guidelines and timelines to ensure fair and democratic elections across all levels of the party structure.
Notable attendees at the meeting included the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, and Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, the party’s only serving governor.
Speaking at the event, Ajaero reaffirmed the party’s foundation as a platform for the masses.
He urged members not to lose hope despite recent internal conflicts.
“Anyone who is not with us and is not working with the Labour force and claims to be the party’s chairman is a daydreamer.”
“When the day of reckoning comes, we will say we don’t know you,” he said.
Governor Otti, in his address, emphasized the need to restructure and rebrand the party, stating that doing so is essential to the party’s future success.
He confirmed that the NEC meeting was in line with a Supreme Court judgment that recognized Senator Nenadi Usman as the party’s national chairperson. He called on the Julius Abure-led faction to respect the ruling and cooperate with the new leadership.
“As law-abiding people, we felt we should obey the Supreme Court judgment, and what we are here to do is to begin a structured process by formalizing some key committees like the interim national working committee,” Otti said.
