John Ayuba, who was the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State during the 2023 elections, has formally resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Ayuba confirmed his defection during a phone call with Daily Watch Nigeria on Monday, and in a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ungwan Gaiya Ward in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.

In the letter, he blamed persistent mismanagement and a lack of strategic direction at the national level for his exit from the PDP, saying it had become increasingly difficult for him to remain committed to the party’s ideals.

“It is with a heavy heart that I write to convey my difficult decision to resign my membership of our erstwhile great party,” the letter stated.

Ayuba accused top PDP stakeholders of engaging in anti-party activities and compromising the party’s future.

He expressed deep concern over the leadership’s failure to take action after senior members allegedly worked against the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.

“I have, over the last three years, watched with great concern the mismanagement of the future of our party at the national level by those who, I fear to say, do not mean well for its future,” Ayuba said.

“These events culminated in brazen acts of anti-party activities against our presidential candidate in the 2023 general election by highly placed party members.”

He noted that even months after the elections, the PDP had failed to resolve the lingering issues, leaving many loyal members disillusioned.

Ayuba said his decision followed wide consultations with political allies and supporters, and that remaining in the PDP was no longer viable.

While expressing appreciation to the PDP for the platform it offered him, particularly during the 2023 elections, Ayuba said it was time to move on to a new political chapter.

His defection marks another high-profile departure from the PDP, reflecting ongoing internal strife and discontent within the party’s ranks, especially in Kaduna State and across Nigeria.
