Anambra Guber: Shockwaves as over 32,000 APGA members dumps party for APC

In what analysts are describing as a political earthquake in Anambra State, more than 32,000 members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) have decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a show of massive support for the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, ahead of the November 8, 2025 election.
The high-profile defection occurred on Saturday during a mega rally and thanksgiving celebration organized by the Sustenance of Faith in Governance (SOFIG) Family, also known as the Ikwukuoma SOFIG Family, to mark their sixth anniversary.
The event doubled as an endorsement rally and fundraising ceremony and attracted thousands of political enthusiasts, grassroots supporters, and SOFIG members.

In his address, Prince Ukachukwu, popularly known as Ikwukuoma, expressed deep gratitude to the SOFIG Family for the massive show of support.
“This is the first time I’ve received such overwhelming backing without spending a kobo.”
“This is not politics as usual; it’s a divine movement built on family, community, and vision,” he declared, pledging to champion inclusive governance from the grassroots to the state level.
Deputy governorship candidate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, hailed Ukachukwu as a credible and visionary leader capable of liberating Anambra from stagnation.
“Prince Nicholas is trustworthy, God-fearing, and ready. Our victory must begin at the ward level and blaze across all 901 wards in Anambra Central and beyond,” she asserted.
SOFIG’s National President, Dr. Kingsley K. Ezekwelu, Esq., officially endorsed Ukachukwu, announcing a ₦150 million donation from SOFIG to his campaign.
“We are more than 35,000 members strong, including the 32,000 new APC converts from APGA. This is not just an endorsement, it’s a mission,” Ezekwelu emphasized.
Receiving the defectors, Anambra APC Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, described the event as a historic turning point.
“With Prince Ukachukwu, the APC is ready to deliver the long-awaited transformation Anambra needs. The tides are turning,” he said, pledging ₦2 million to SOFIG and promising further collaboration.
The rally also witnessed massive financial support from several political heavyweights. Chief Mike Duru Ejiogu donated ₦60 million, ₦30 million to the campaign and ₦30 million to SOFIG, alongside ₦1 million disbursed to each local government for grassroots mobilization.
Other donors included Chief Anthony Ezekwugo, who pledged ₦10 million to SOFIG and ₦1 million to Idemili South, as well as Engr. JohnBosco Onunkwo and the Okwuosa family, who each donated ₦1 million.
The defection marks a major realignment ahead of the November polls and boosts the momentum of the Ukachukwu/Ekwunife ticket in the battle for Anambra’s top seat.
