Manchester United land Bryan Mbeumo in £65m Brentford deal

Manchester United have agreed terms for the signature of Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a blockbuster deal worth an initial £65 million, with an additional £6 million in potential add-ons.
The move marks a significant step in manager Ruben Amorim’s determined effort to rebuild the Red Devils’ struggling attack.
Mbeumo, 25, earned Amorim’s attention after a sensational 2024/25 season where he netted 20 goals in 38 Premier League appearances.
The versatile forward, who can play across the front line, had also been on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar, especially with former Brentford manager Thomas Frank now in charge at Spurs.

However, United’s improved third bid sealed the deal after two earlier offers were turned down by Brentford.
Set to undergo a medical ahead of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States, Mbeumo becomes United’s third signing of the summer.
He joins Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, signed for £62.5 million, and Paraguayan teenage defender Diego Leon at Old Trafford.
Amorim is executing a major revamp following a disappointing season that saw United finish 15th in the Premier League, their worst league result since 1973–74, and suffer a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.
United’s frontline struggled all season, with forwards Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to meet expectations.
Mbeumo’s arrival could also signal the departure of other key forwards.
Reports suggest Alejandro Garnacho has been told to seek a new club, while Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are expected to leave after loan spells at Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively.

Despite failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, a miss estimated to cost United at least £70 million, the club’s heavy summer spending signals strong ambition under Amorim’s leadership.
Mbeumo leaves Brentford after a successful six-year spell, having joined from French side Troyes in 2019.
He scored 70 goals and delivered 51 assists in 242 matches, playing a key role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and their impressive 10th-place finish last season.
