Veteran journalist and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared his allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing the hijack of the PDP by what he described as “anti-democratic forces.”

In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of PDP Ward 4, Ihievbe, in the Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu expressed deep dissatisfaction with the direction of the PDP and announced his defection to the opposition coalition under the ADC platform.

“My reason is simple and straightforward,” he wrote.

“Our party has been unarguably hijacked by anti-democratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.”

“It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”

Momodu’s move is believed to be part of a broader plan to rally opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general election, with the aim of unseating President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Earlier this month, the former PDP chieftain openly accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of working as a mole for the APC during the 2023 presidential election despite his membership in the PDP.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Momodu said, “Without any doubt, people are leaving the carcass of PDP to Wike and his cronies, that’s all. It was a prophecy foretold.”

He further alleged that the ruling APC is planting moles in opposition parties to weaken any viable challenge in the next election cycle.

“The ruling party does not want competition in 2027, so what they are doing now is to send their moles into any major formidable party,” he stated.

Momodu also lashed out at the Tinubu administration, claiming it has worsened Nigeria’s situation beyond what was left by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I know you might not be able to answer but is this the Nigeria of your dreams? Are you better today than you were two years ago? At least when Buhari left, we saw what he left no matter how bad it was, but it is much worse today,” he said.
