The remains of Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari have arrived in the country from London ahead of his burial in Daura, Katsina State, later today.

Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 after a brief illness, is being laid to rest according to Islamic traditions.

The body was received at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport in Katsina by President Bola Tinubu, Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State, senior government officials, and members of Buhari’s family.

Also present were dignitaries and sympathisers who gathered to pay their final respects.

President Tinubu had earlier directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead the Federal Government delegation to accompany the late president’s remains back to Nigeria.

The body had departed the United Kingdom earlier in the day.

The late Buhari, a two-time Nigerian leader and one of the nation’s most prominent political figures, will be buried later today in his hometown of Daura, in line with Islamic funeral rites.
