PDP Governors meet in Zamfara ahead of crucial NEC session

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently holding a closed-door session at the Zamfara State Government House in Gusau.

Though the agenda was not made public, insiders say the talks are tied to the ongoing zoning debate ahead of the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday in Abuja.

One of the key issues before the NEC is the zoning of leadership positions in preparation for the party’s elective convention fixed for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan.

The Zamfara meeting is seen as an attempt by the PDP governors to reach a united position before the NEC session.

The zoning outcome is expected to have far-reaching effects on party cohesion and its chances in the 2027 general elections.

The meeting also comes at a time when the PDP is grappling with internal divisions, raising the stakes for whatever agreements are reached.

Although details of the ongoing discussions are still under wraps, it is believed that the governors may also consider other critical issues affecting the stability and electoral strength of the party.

With the NEC meeting drawing closer, attention is now fixed on how the PDP will balance competing interests and chart a path toward unity ahead of the next electoral cycle.
