Fans pick Esther Okoronkwo as Super Falcons’ best at WAFCON 2024

Esther Okoronkwo has been voted as Super Falcons’ Fans’ Player of the Tournament for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Okoronkwo secured the accolade after winning a fan poll conducted on the team’s official X handle, edging out five of her teammates, including team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who was named the overall Player of the Tournament by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Other nominees for the fans’ award were Jennifer Echegini, Ashleigh Plumptre, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Chinwendu Ihezuo.

The 27-year-old forward, who plays for AFC Toronto, was instrumental in Nigeria’s successful WAFCON 2024 campaign.

She contributed two goals and six assists across six appearances and was named in CAF’s Best XI of the tournament, further underscoring her outstanding performance.
