The Federal Government has reiterated its determination to transform Nigeria’s livestock sector into a major economic driver in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

This commitment was made by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, during his remarks at the 2024 Blueprint Impact Series and Awards Ceremony held in Abuja, themed “Exploring the Potentials of Livestock Exports in Nigeria.”

Akume emphasized that President Tinubu views the livestock industry as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s industrial growth and foreign trade.

According to him, the establishment of the new Federal Ministry of Livestock Development shows the government’s seriousness in unlocking the sector’s immense economic value.

“The theme of this event aligns perfectly with the administration’s goals.”

“The livestock sector, if properly harnessed, can resolve some of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges, while also transforming rural communities and enhancing national productivity,” he stated.

He added that the Tinubu administration is committed to investing in the sector through strategic infrastructure development, value chain expansion, and regional trade facilitation, thereby positioning livestock as a catalyst for socio-economic development.

Akume also applauded Blueprint Newspaper for promoting national unity, inclusive growth, and good governance.

He commended the media outfit’s commitment to solution-oriented journalism and pledged government collaboration with credible media platforms like Blueprint to promote innovation and inspire national progress.

In his goodwill message, the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, said the sector holds enormous potential to significantly increase Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), provided reforms are enacted and export standards are met.

He also called on stakeholders in the private sector, academia, and the media to support the newly established ministry.
