2027 Polls: APC, PDP, LP, other opposition leaders unite under ADC in Kaduna

In a significant move ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Coalition of Political Opposition in Kaduna State has officially adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its preferred political platform.
The coalition, made up of members from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP), has also unveiled plans to commence massive mobilisation and party-building activities across the state.
At a press briefing in Kaduna on Monday, the coalition’s leaders revealed their intention to restructure and strengthen the ADC’s presence in all 23 local government areas and 255 wards in the state.
The leaders expressed a firm agreement to build an inclusive, people-centred political movement that would be capable of challenging the ruling APC in the next election cycle.
Among those present were notable political figures including Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, Mr. Patrick Didam, and Alhaji Ibrahim Suleiman.
Prominent national personalities such as Senator Nenadi Usman, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, and Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati, though absent, conveyed their support through official representatives.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Mallam Salihu Mohammed Lukman explained that their alignment with the ADC was in line with the party’s formal unveiling as the national platform for the coalition in Abuja on July 2, 2025.
“Our goal is to build a truly democratic party that will unite the people of Kaduna State and promote inclusive politics,” he stated.
The coalition disclosed that consultations with ADC’s state leadership were already underway, while verification of the party’s existing structures was nearing completion.
They stressed the need to avoid past political mistakes where parties were hijacked by self-serving godfathers, noting that the ADC in Kaduna would be guided by collective leadership, equal participation, and genuine representation.
They called on all opposition stakeholders in the state to put aside personal ambitions and work towards a common objective.
“Just as no single person can defeat President Tinubu nationally, no individual can unseat Governor Uba Sani in Kaduna alone. We must unite,” they declared.
On internal party affairs, the coalition affirmed the retention of ADC’s current state leadership, a decision reportedly backed by the party’s Interim National Chairman, Senator David Mark, during a recent meeting on July 11, 2025.
They cautioned aspiring members against authoritarian tendencies and internal manipulations, while advocating for a return to constitutional, grassroots-driven politics.
“We have seen citizens mobilised to remove governments only to be betrayed by elected leaders. This must not be allowed to happen again,” they added.
The coalition urged for tolerance, sacrifice, and service-driven leadership, pledging to nurture a new generation of people-centred, principled, and genuinely democratic leaders through the ADC.
They condemned practices such as godfatherism, exclusion, and electoral malpractice, promising to uphold transparent and fair political processes.
Among those who endorsed the initiative were Senator Nenadi Usman, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, Dr. John Ayuba, Senator Musa Bello, Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati, and Mallam Salihu Mohammed Lukman.
The coalition announced plans to launch a grassroots mobilisation and membership registration campaign in the coming weeks, calling on citizens across Kaduna’s 23 local councils to actively take part. “We remain committed to rescuing Nigerian democracy.
May God bless this movement and gift Nigerians with sincere, selfless leaders,” the leaders concluded.
