The Presidency has dismissed the emerging coalition of opposition political figures aiming to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, describing it as “overblown” and lacking substance.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communications, made the remarks on Wednesday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

He said the supposed coalition lacks credible structure and significant political traction.

“This coalition issue you are hearing is overblown; there is no coalition anywhere,” Bwala asserted.

“Those who left the PDP, who are the proponents of this coalition, are just a handful of people.”

“The governors of the PDP have not followed them, and the National Working Committee, national executives have not followed them. Where is the coalition?”

He further claimed that the opposition bloc was still struggling to find a consensus presidential candidate ahead of 2027, highlighting internal disunity within the PDP and among opposition leaders.

Despite Bwala’s dismissal, Daily Watch Nigeria reports that notable political figures are spearheading the coalition efforts.

They include former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Their goal is to unseat the APC and form a unified political front.

To lead the alliance, the coalition has named former Senate President David Mark as national chairman, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as secretary, and ex-Minister of Youth and Sports Bolaji Abdullahi as spokesperson.
