Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that all coalition leaders will fully support whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday, the former governor emphasized the coalition’s commitment to unity and transparency in the build-up to the elections.

“The moment anybody emerges from the primary, all of us will support; that’s the agreement,” Amaechi said. “We insist on a free and fair, transparent primary.”

Amaechi, who recently parted ways with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), also expressed concern over the growing hunger and economic hardship across the country.

He urged all well-meaning residents of Rivers State to register under the ADC in a bid to unseat the APC-led government come 2027.

“Every Rivers man who thinks good of the state and country should move to register with the new party and ensure that we remove the current government and stop the hunger that everybody is suffering from,” he stated.

The ADC has been adopted by opposition heavyweights as the platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. Key figures in the coalition include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Anambra State governor Peter Obi, both major contenders in the last presidential election.

Others in the fold are former Senate President David Mark and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who, like Atiku, left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

During the coalition’s unveiling on July 2, interim chairman David Mark described the movement as a necessary effort to preserve Nigeria’s democracy and prevent the country from slipping into a one-party state.
