Tragedy struck on Thursday, July 24, 2025, when suspected Fulani bandits ambushed a vehicle returning from the bustling Bokkos market in Plateau State, killing 14 people, including women and infants.

Eyewitnesses told Daily Watch Nigeria that the victims had completed their trading for the day at the weekly market and were heading home along Chirang Road in Mangor District when they were attacked.

One witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the scene as horrifying, stating that the armed men suddenly blocked the road and opened fire on the passengers without warning.

Many were killed on the spot, and several others sustained injuries.

Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Forum (BCDF), Farmasum Fuddang, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.

He condemned the killings, expressing disappointment that such violence could still occur despite several peace and reconciliation efforts between farming and herding communities in the area.

“The victims were returning from the weekly market in Bokkos town when their vehicle was ambushed.”

“Victims included women and little babies,” Fuddang stated. “This violence occurs despite various so-called peace and reconciliation efforts.”

He further accused Fulani militias of carrying out the attack, claiming their intent is to seize control of Bokkos Local Government Area, widely known as Nigeria’s potato hub.
